Public comment sought on draft proposed revision of the NAGPRA regulations

C. Timothy McKeown PhD
Vice Chair, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Review Committee

At this afternoon’s meeting of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Review Committee, the committee discussed the need to hear from national scientific and museum organizations regarding the draft proposal to revise regulations implementing NAGPRA. We have set a goal of having a complete set of committee recommendations by our meeting on March 31, 2022, and have set time aside at each of our meetings on February 14, 28, March 10, 15 to hear from you and members of the public. The draft proposal along with other supporting information is available at: The Regulations - Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)

If you would like to make a presentation on the draft proposal or submit written comments for the review committee’s consideration I urge you to contact Melanie_O’Brien@nps.gov.
