Student Committee

Greetings from the SfAA Student Committee! 

As an SfAA committee, our role is to support student members of the SfAA and to provide recommendations to the SfAA Board to make the SfAA more beneficial to students. In addition to judging the Student Endowed Award, this year we have been focusing our efforts on preparations for the upcoming Annual Meeting in Santa Fe.

We have been working closely with the Program Chair, A. J. Faas, to plan some exciting activities for this year’s conference. Our focus for Santa Fe is to provide opportunities and resources to help you network and connect with fellow applied researchers. If you will be in Santa Fe this March, please check out our second annual “Student Guide to the SfAA Conference,” which will highlight some of the many formal and informal networking opportunities, as well as other skill-based sessions. The Student Committee is hosting two sessions this year in addition to our Annual Student Party. Both of our sessions will provide tools to build your confidence and transform your conference experience. 

If you will be attending the SfAA conference, please say hello (either virtually or in-person)! We are always looking for volunteers to help support our work. If you’re interested in being involved with the SfAA Student Committee, plan to attend one of our sessions to learn more. We will be recruiting SfAA student members to join the Committee to serve two-year terms later this year.

The 2023/2024 SfAA Student Committee is Chaired by Michelle Hak Hepburn (PhD Candidate, University of British Columbia), and includes Ethan Copple (MS student, Applied Anthropology and Industrial Engineering, Oregon State University), Samantha Primiano (PhD Candidate, University of Maryland, College Park), Kaylee Appleton (MA student, University of South Florida), Silvana Montañola (PhD Candidate, University of Maryland), and Rebecca Carmick (MA Student, San Jose State University).
