Risk and Disaster TIG

Bringing up the next generation

Mentoring emerged as a priority from last year’s business meeting. To make this a reality, a subgroup is meeting to flesh out a mentoring program that matches interests and capacity.

If you’re interested in the Risk and Disaster TIG mentoring program, either being a mentor or being mentored (or both!), please take 3-5 minutes to fill out this survey

For those who will be in Santa Fe, please mark your calendars for Thursday, March 28, from 3:45 to 5:30. The Mentoring Roundtable will be lively and productive. For those who will be virtual, former TIG co-chair Noémie Gonzalez is organizing a virtual mentoring for practitioners.

Saying goodbye

Among the very rich and stimulating series of panels at the SfAA Annual Meeting will be a heartfelt two-part tribute to Heather Lazrus, who passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. The panel will begin Friday, 1:30 p.m. This is the abstract:

Dr. Heather Lazrus transitioned from this world to the next in February 2023. She was a beloved friend and colleague to many in the applied anthropology field; a brave and wise scholar, her influential work shaped our discipline and many others. These panels honor her imprint on our lives and work, and catalyze new collaborations for the future. Heather’s legacy is transformation-in-action. In this double-session, we will hear from her close collaborators reflecting on their collective work and those inspired and influenced by her work. We will close with remarks on her enduring impacts and open up space for sharing for those in attendance.
