Assistant Professor of Cultural and Environmental Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of cultural anthropology with specialization in environmental anthropology that complements the department's research and practice. Preference will be given to expertise in one or more of the following areas: cultural landscapes, sustainability, conservation of biocultural diversity, traditional ecological knowledge, political ecology, climate change, disaster research, migration, and environmental justice. Teaching and research philosophies that are collaborative, participatory and focused on community action are strongly preferred. Knowledge of and experience working with Latin American, Greater Southwest, and U.S.-Mexico border communities is preferred. The development of a culturally sensitive and problem-oriented program of scholarship with potential for securing external funding is highly desirable. Abilities to teach graduate field methods and qualitative data analysis are preferred. Abilities to contribute to Anthropology program development, community engagement in multicultural settings, and engage in outreach and extension with communities in the State of New Mexico, Greater Southwest, Mexico, and internationally are strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will teach classes at all levels and modalities and supervise graduate students (face to face, with experiential learning components, and online). This is not a remote work position.

Ph.D. in Anthropology at time of appointment is required.
