The Department of Anthropology seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of cultural anthropology with preferred expertise in the anthropology of health who also complements the department’s research and practice. Preference will be given to expertise in one or more of the following areas: critical medical anthropology, anthropology of resource insecurity (e.g., water, energy, food, or housing), political-economic perspectives on health, migrant health, health disparities/inequities, health equity, and applied research. Teaching and research philosophies that are collaborative, participatory, and focused on biocultural perspectives and community action are strongly preferred. Knowledge and experience working with Latin American, Greater Southwest, and U.S.-Mexico border communities is preferred. The development of a culturally sensitive and problem-oriented program of scholarship with potential for securing external funding is highly desirable. Ability to teach field and qualitative analytical methods to develop and sustain the MA program in Anthropology and our undergraduate medical anthropology minor is preferred. Abilities to contribute to anthropology program development, community engagement in multicultural settings, and engage in outreach and extension with communities in the State of New Mexico, regionally in the Greater Southwest, Mexico, and internationally are strongly preferred.
The successful candidate will teach classes at all levels and modalities and supervise graduate students (face to face, with experiential learning components, and online). This is not a remote work position.
PhD in Anthropology at time of appointment is required.
