Position: Assistant Professor of Anthropology (Archaeology and Cultural Resource Management)

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:       

• Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2023.
• Expertise in Cultural Resource Management (CRM)
• Expertise in legal underpinnings of the CRM and historic preservation industry in the United States
• Demonstrated potential for research productivity
• Demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

• A track record of Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) among Latino/a/x, Native American, African-American or Asian American / Pacific Islander communities in the United States
• Well-versed in federal policies such as the North American Grave and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the National Historical Preservation Act (NHPA), and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
• Demonstrate a potential for involving students in their field or lab research 
• Ability to teach courses such as Cultural Resource Management, Artifact Analysis, Principles of Archaeology, World Prehistory, and Introduction to Archaeology
• Demonstrate a commitment to scholarly excellence and will serve on appropriate departmental, college and university committees
• Demonstrated potential to contribute to the program and form interdisciplinary partnerships 
• Experience and passion for teaching and working with colleagues and students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, gender, disability, and academic backgrounds
• Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body (Demographics)

Duties:                                    

• Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses including field school courses [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
• Serve on thesis committees
• Contribute to our efforts to conduct research that connects with our department program in applied anthropology at the graduate level 
• Develop and sustain research, scholarly and creative activities leading to publication and presentations
• Establish interdisciplinary research partnerships
• Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
• Collaborate with faculty to further the goals of the Anthropology Department
• Participate in regional and national anthropology organizations
